Three numbers. One honest estimate.
Missed Call Calculator: See What Unanswered Calls Cost You
Every missed call is a customer who wanted to give you work. Most of them won't leave a voicemail, and many will simply call the next business on Google. This calculator puts a dollar figure on those calls, so you can see what they're really costing you each month and each year.
Start from your trade
Revenue you could recover
$8,400
per month, or $100,800 a year
- Missed calls each month
- 84
- Would have booked (1 in 3)
- 28 jobs
- Return on the Growth plan
- 47× its cost
Estimate only. Assumes 1 in 3 missed callers would have booked.
How to use it
How to Use the Missed Call Calculator
- 01
Pick your trade, or start from scratch.
Choosing pest control, HVAC, junk removal, limo, or hair salon fills in typical numbers you can then adjust.
- 02
Enter your monthly calls.
A rough figure is fine. Your phone bill or call log will usually show it.
- 03
Set how many go unanswered.
Be honest here. Count calls that hit voicemail, rang out, or came in while you were closed.
- 04
Add your average job value.
What a typical new customer spends on their first job with you.
The calculator updates as you go and shows your missed calls, the jobs you're likely losing, and the revenue you could recover each month and each year.
How it works
How the Calculation Works
There's no hidden math. The calculator does three simple steps:
Missed calls = calls per month × the percentage that go unanswered
Jobs you're likely losing = missed calls ÷ 3, because we assume only 1 in 3 missed callers would have booked
Revenue you could recover = jobs lost × your average job value (and × 12 for the year)
Here's a worked example for a busy home service company:
| Step | Number |
|---|---|
| Calls per month | 280 |
| Calls that go unanswered | 30% |
| Missed calls each month | 84 |
| Would have booked (1 in 3) | 28 jobs |
| Average job value | $297 |
| Revenue you could recover | $8,316 a month, or $99,792 a year |
The calculator also shows how that number compares with the cost of Vossat's Growth plan ($179 a month). In this example, the recovered revenue is about 46 times the plan's cost.
It's an estimate, not a promise. Your real numbers depend on your prices, your market, and how ready your callers are to book.
What it means
What Your Result Means
If your number made you wince, you're not alone. Most owners guess low, because missed calls are invisible: you never hear from the people who hung up.
Here's how to read it:
Under a few hundred dollars a month.
You're already answering most calls. A simple voicemail greeting and fast callbacks may be enough for now.
A few hundred to a couple of thousand.
Missed calls are costing you more than an answering service would. It's worth covering your busiest hours and your after-hours calls.
Several thousand or more.
Missed calls are one of the biggest leaks in your business. Every week you wait is money going to a competitor.
The real number is often higher than the estimate, because the calculator only counts the first job. It doesn't include repeat visits, maintenance plans, or the referrals a happy customer sends you.
There are three ways to close the gap: answer more calls yourself, pay a live answering service, or use an AI answering service like Vossat, which answers every call 24/7, captures every lead, and on the Growth and Pro plans books the job.
It depends on what a new customer is worth to you. If your average job is $300 and one in three missed callers would have booked, each missed call costs you about $100 in lost first-job revenue. Use the calculator above to see your own number.
Not every caller is ready to buy. Some are comparing prices, some have a quick question, and some have dialed the wrong number. Assuming only one in three would have booked keeps the estimate on the cautious side, so the number you see is realistic rather than inflated.
No. It only counts the first job from each caller. If your customers come back or refer friends, a missed call is worth more than the calculator shows.
A missed call text back sends an automatic text when you don't pick up, which is better than nothing. But the caller still has to wait for a reply, and many will have already called someone else. Answering the call, finding out what they need, and booking the job right then keeps far more of those customers.
Forward the calls you can't take to an answering service. Vossat answers every call 24/7, takes down every caller's details, sends urgent calls to whoever is on call, and on the Growth and Pro plans books jobs straight into your calendar. Plans start at $49 a month, with no contract.
